Marylebone Town Hall Wedding Photography London

I love the iconic Old Marylebone Town Hall as a setting for editorial wedding photography in central London.

A super sought-after wedding venue, Marylebone Town Hall has hosted the marriages of some rock and roll royalty. Names such as Sir Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell (and previously Linda McCartney), Cilla Black and Bobby Willis, Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach, and Liam Gallagher and Nicole Appleton have all graced their elegant rooms for their nuptials.

My editorial, cinematic approach to shooting your London wedding aligns perfectly with Marylebone as I love the urban documentary photography we can capture as you arrive, then formalise your vows, and emerge back into the bustling hubbub of central London. It makes such a beautiful contrast – the zoom-in on the intimacy of two people making such a promise, against the backdrop of one of the world’s largest cities.

From the dark wooden panelling of the larger Westminster Room to the muted blues and greys of the more intimate Knightsbridge Room with its central fireplace, there is likely a ceremony space which will fit the bill for your wedding aesthetic. When we come outside again, we capture this sense of your special moment in time – your new bond showcased against this beautiful, historical venue.

Time flies inside this beautiful venue, so choosing a London wedding photographer with experience is useful here. There isn’t a huge amount of time dedicated to heavily art-directed shots, so I have a shoot-on-the-go approach here, with my foreknowledge of where presents the best opportunities. We will make the most of the beautiful white stone staircases leading up to the ceremony rooms and also the main central staircase, as you move towards your wedding, and celebrate straight after!

Every couple is allowed to walk down the main stairs outside Marylebone Town Hall for a confetti shot. These exuberant, joy-filled shots are so filled with personality, that I always encourage my clients to take the opportunity. But with confetti I can’t stress this enough – the more the better! Always choose biodegradable confetti – flower petals are the most sumptuous and beautiful choice, in my opinion. Choose a classic mix, or for something a little more refined, choose a supplier such as Cotswold Confetti, who have options such as creamy white dried jasmine and exquisite pink hydrangea petals, or choose Petals and Roses’ “Pick and Mix” confetti, where you can select up to five colours of petals to perfectly match your wedding colours. We can also spend a few moments on some intimate shots of the newlyweds at this point – I always enjoy including Marylebone’s iconic lions! The backdrop of Palladian columns and archways in that elegant and clean stone create the most beautiful editorial frames, and there is always a beautiful display of seasonal flowers or foliage at the entrance to take advantage of.

After that whirlwind, we’ll jump in a black cab together and capture some shots of just the two of you, buzzing with your union, as we head off to your next venue.

Old Marylebone Town Hall, London: the aesthetic

Old Marylebone Town Hall is a wedding venue which showcases striking Edwardian architecture, mimicking the grandeur of the Graeco-Roman style. Classical fluted columns break up the vastness of its facade, and create striking frames for your wedding photography London, whilst the Portland stone which clads the building, at once bright and warm, creates a beautiful neutral and flattering background. The grand steps at the front create this sense of ceremony when you arrive which can sometimes be lost from registry office occasions. When your taxi or car pulls up, it’s a fab opportunity to capture the bride in anticipation…and give the thrill of London life to your photography.

With seven ceremony rooms to choose from, it’s a real favourite of mine when it comes to a Town Hall match – with Chelsea Town Hall up there too! According to this research, it’s the fourth most popular registry office wedding venue in the UK – and I’m not surprised. Take a trip to the bathrooms on the ground floor for a sneak peek of some of the venue’s most fabulous occasions, captured in a gallery of stylish black and white photography.

Inspiration for an urban London Wedding Day

After formalising your bond at Old Marylebone Town Hall, what then? Most of my couples, whether marrying with a huge party of friends and family or going the more intimate route, want to make the most of what London has to offer when it comes to glamorous and historic hotels and the latest high-end restaurants. You can carry on the celebrations in style, whether you opt for a traditional wedding breakfast and party at a local hotel, or go for something a little less conventional such as private hire of one of London’s top restaurants for your nearest and dearest.

Over on Marylebone High Street, you’ll find the light-bathed modern elegance of Michelin-recommended restaurant The Orrery, as well as the exclusive privacy and members club-vibes of the personality-filled Fischer’s. Walk down to Blandford Street for the Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Trishna, or over to the renowned Chiltern Firehouse for a glamorous and contagiously fun ambience.

Private Clubs after a Marylebone Town Hall London wedding

London, of course, is home to a huge number of amazing world-renowned restaurants and private clubs. Choose Daphne’s for refined but authentic Italian cuisine, or that Art Deco celeb favourite haunt, the original The Ivy on West Street.

Home House is a private club in Marylebone itself. Set in a beautiful Georgian townhouse, Home House is replete with history – an iconic and eccentric ode to decadence. The Twenty Two is an Edwardian manor with a focus on elegance and sophistication, married with modern aesthetics. Private parties in the dining room can enjoy bespoke set menus and impeccable service, seating up to 24 guests.

Where to stay after a Marylebone Town Hall London wedding

This end of town is blessed with plenty of high-end hotels. Opt for the chic Japanese minimalism of 5* Nobu on Portman Square, or head over to The Ned near Bank for a subtle nod to 1920s glamour. Here you can rent out their whole historic sixth floor for your continued wedding celebrations, a great option for those looking to keep their vows intimate but share a day of partying with all of those they love! Other fabulous venues in which to continue your day include London’s ‘Hotel of the Year’ 2024 The Dorchester, and you should never forget the classic decadence, refinement, and heritage of London’s famous The Ritz and Claridge’s.

I love the urban hustle of London; its rich history, its sumptuous architecture, and the buzz of life. I hope I’ve given you some inspiration for your wedding celebrations.
